On Thursday December 15, The Community Center for The Performing Arts proudly welcomes Rhododendron, DR/UNK, Gossip and Candy Picnic to The WOW Hall.

Rhododendron are a three-piece from Portland, Oregon. Their sound is a mix of heavier, noise rock-type bands like Melvins and Unwound and breakneck hardcore in the vein of Melt-Banana and Botch, topped off with influences of screamo, post-rock, noise, and Mars Volta-esque prog. They formed in January of 2019. All the members met each other through the Portland School of Rock while they were in their teens; guitarist Ezra Chong and bassist Gage Walker played in a stoner metal band named Asphodel before they decided to call it quits and start a new project. Before anything was official, Ezra knew there would only be one drummer who could make the band whole, so he asked the best drummer he knew, Noah Mortola, if he wanted to join. Noah accepted, and so Rhododendron was official. Sadly, Noah broke his arm in a bike accident, so practices were put on hold for 2 months. After Noah's arm was healed, they went to work, spending the next few months cultivating their signature sound. They played shows sporadically throughout the second half of 2019, and spent those last two months recording their debut EP in Noah's basement. The aforementioned EP, Stream of Nauseousness, was released on December 28th, and through this, they gained a small following. In early 2020, they had many large shows mapped out, but sadly, the coronavirus pandemic ruined all of those shows. Not to be deterred, they started to write songs for a new album, practicing in Noah's backyard so they could stay properly distanced. They spent the rest of 2020 hard at work, releasing their debut full-length Protozoan Battle Hymns on May 14th, 2021.

Dr/unk is a self-described queer, drag-punk band.  They play original punk music and dress in drag.  Each band member has their own drag persona and stage personality — drummer Tristan Day becomes Patricia Violence; bassist Isaac Andreason becomes Miss Treat; guitarist and vocalist Chris Heer becomes Suzie Slaughter; and Dakota Seven becomes Daisy Chained.

Gossip is experimental screamo band from Portland Oregon

Candy Picnic

Candy Picnic is a band of teenagers hailing from Eugene.  While their original songs draw from a variety of musical styles past and present, they consider themselves to be an alternative rock band.

In a January 8, 2020 Register Guard interview with Joaquin Arriola (Eugene MOSH), Candy Picnic was described as being “very young, super talented, and rising quickly.” Candy Picnic released its first six-song EP titled Garage Sounds in November of 2019.  The EP can be found on Spotify, Amazon, SoundCloud, and a variety of other channels.  The band has a new album in the works and plans to release it during the spring of 2022.

Band Members are Chris Heer (guitar and vocals), Stella Parker (bass and vocals), Spencer Misfeldt (lead guitar) and Champe Scoble (drums and vocals).
